Lorraine (she/her)

Hi! I’m Lorraine and I’m the Founder of Intrepid English and I love to teach all areas of English as a Second Language. Here are 5 things you might not know about me:
1. I am left-handed.
2. My favourite colour is teal.
3. My favourite cuisine is Indian food; I love spicy curry!
4. I have lived and worked in 9 countries.
5. I speak German and I am learning Mandarin.

I love to teach English because it truly is a tool to empower others. It brings me so much joy to meet students who are passionate about their jobs and help them to make a positive impact in their community.

Lida (she/her)

Hello, I’m Lida!
I’m the Director of Studies and Senior English Teacher here at Intrepid English. Let me introduce myself and tell you some little-known facts about me.
1. I wanted to be a forensic linguist. Teaching was just a backup at first.
2. I spent two years in the mountains of California studying creative writing.
3. I love dystopian and post-apocalyptic stories.
4. I like to play the saxophone but I am not good at it.
5. One of the reasons I moved to Scotland was because I don’t like hot weather.

I believe that practical, accessible and equitable education enables students to reach their goals, however small or lofty, and make a difference in their community.

Thomas (he/him)

Hi! I’m Tom and I’m Head of Content and a Senior English Teacher at Intrepid English. Here are five things you might not know about me:
1. I finished my Master’s in Milan (which is where my love affair with Italy began)
2. I am a published writer.
3. I used to be the editor of a fashion magazine.
4. I have been swimming since I was 5 (it’s very much in the family genes)
5. I absolutely adore peanut butter and chocolate – together! 

I have always wanted to empower my students; to share knowledge so that they feel more ready and confident to use the language. I’m here to help you stretch your wings and fly.

Kate B (she/her)

Hello, I’m Kate. I’m a Senior English Teacher and Head of Creative here at Intrepid English. Let me introduce myself.
1. I have lived and worked in England, New Zealand, Mexico and France.
2. I speak Spanish and I would like to learn Italian next.
3. One of my best travel experiences was doing a skydive over Lake Taupo in New Zealand.
4. I enjoy swimming, hiking and baking. My speciality is dark choc orange flapjack.
5. My favourite animals are whales and tigers.

Teaching English is my passion because I love to see my students grow in confidence and truly enjoy using the language. I like the quote, “When one teaches, two learn’’; I believe that teaching and learning go hand in hand.

Joanne (she/her)

Hi, I’m Joanne and I am a full-time English Teacher here at Intrepid English. Let me introduce myself:
1. I’ve lived in China, Japan, South Korea and Poland.
2. I speak Chinese.
3. I studied Japanese in Tokyo.
4. I love dancing and have been dancing since I was three years old.
5. I love cooking, but I don’t love following recipes. 

I love helping my students to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. My ideal student is someone who wants to learn and who is OK with making mistakes. I love teaching all areas of English but I especially enjoy teaching in a CLIL based way or through projects and different topics. 

Josephine (she/her)

Hello Intrepid English Learners. My name is Jo, and here are 5 facts about me:
1. I sailed halfway across the Pacific with a fleet of traditional Polynesian voyaging canoes.
2. I lived on a crocodile farm while working on a banana farm.
3. I love hiking and always get very sad when my boots wear out, so I have a little farewell ceremony for them to thank them for all the places they have taken me.
4. I lived and worked on a broken down superyacht in Papua New Guinea, for 8 months.
5. I was a gothic when I was a teenager and I still wear black all of the time.
I love teaching because I meet incredible people with fascinating stories from all over the world. It makes me happy to work together with students to help them express themselves and to reach their goals. Nothing beats the buzz of a great lesson!

Caitlyn (she/her)

Hi, I’m Caitlyn!
It’s great to meet you. I’m based in South Africa where I study Politics and World History. Feel free to add me as a connection so we can get to know each other better. I’ll start with some fun facts about me:
1. I’m a huge Manchester United football fan. In fact, I love most sports.
2. I find reading academic journals to be quite fun. It’s true! Ask Lorraine.
3. I aim to be fluent in at least half of South Africa’s languages.
4. I enjoy attempting to bake. Even my mistakes taste great most of the time.
5. I occasionally dress my two dogs in my pyjamas.
I love to teach English because it’s a way for me to connect with people from different cultures. It’s in our human nature to connect with people. I want to try my best to help people connect with others and empower themselves. I also value the freedom that education grants us.

Gemma (she/her)

Hi everyone,
It’s great to have you here. Let me give you some fun facts that you might not know about me:
1. I have a degree in Mandarin and studied in Dalian and Taipei.
2. Musicals are my favourite thing and I wish people would burst into spontaneous song and dance in real life!
3. I play a small Scottish harp called the clarsach.
4. I love hiking and am always planning my next adventure.
5. At the moment I’m taking a course in plant-based remedies…even though I’m terrible with plants!

Communication plays such an important role in all our lives and I love being able to help students develop their skills. Getting to talk to people from all over the world whilst helping them to build their confidence is a wonderful thing.

Hello! My name’s Kate Rodney, you can call me ‘Kate R’.

I am an English Teacher and the host of the ‘Ask Us Anything’ live events every Friday morning.
1. I have skydived twice and done the highest bungee jump in the world
2. I adore elephants and I have travelled to see them in South Africa, Thailand & Sri Lanka
3. I love languages and studied French, Italian and Russian so I understand how it can be difficult to learn another language
4. I am a huge bookworm; there is always at least one book on the go!
5. My favourite meal of all time is my mum’s roast lamb with as many vegetables as I can fit on my plate. That must be followed by my mum’s apple crumble and custard!
I am passionate about teaching English because, through my work as a translator, I realised I preferred teaching to translating. When I can see the spark of understanding in my students’ eyes or when they start using the present perfect tense correctly, I feel a burst of pride!

Maddox (he/him)

Hey everyone, I’m Maddox.
Please allow me to introduce myself!
1. I’ve studied Spanish, Japanese, German, French, and Swedish, and I try to practice with friends as much as possible. Next I want to learn Mandarin or Russian.
2. I love animals and have two miniature dachshunds, also known as ‘Wiener’ dogs. 3. I am a percussionist and have played the drums and marimba for 10 years.
4. In my free time, I like to hike and make collages. It’s fun and relaxing!
5. I’m working towards a degree in Human Rights and postcolonial studies.
Why do I love teaching English? I believe language is not only a tool for expression but a window into a culture and set of experiences. I think learning and teaching languages allows us to share those experiences intimately, and I am passionate about facilitating that process in a fun and engaging way!
